Smart gardens fail because maintenance is invisible until plants die. Existing products automate lights and pumps, but leave the hard parts — pH drift, nutrient balance, algae and pathogens — to the user. HexFarm calls this the Autonomy Gap.
HexFarm's founders met at Aalborg University, where a failed student project — an autonomous vertical farm for extreme environments — taught them why true autonomy is hard. HexFarm is the second attempt, done right: a closed-loop system that measures and corrects pH, EC and hygiene automatically. Plant it, walk away, harvest.
In 2026 the MVP ran 30 days fully unattended. The company is now preparing CE certification, a 10-unit beta, and a first limited production batch ("Første Høst") for Danish early adopters.
